Symphony of the Seas – Everything you Need to Know

If you’ve been following me a while, you’ll know I love to cruise and you’ll know I am a big Royal Caribbean cruise fan. It comes as no surprise then, that sailing on the inaugural sailing of Symphony of the Seas was quite amazing for me as I got to experience the ship in all its wonder before the general public.

I flew to Barcelona back in April for the sailing after a crazy day in work. We flew out the night before because we wanted to use our two days on board as best as possible. So following a broken nights sleep (I couldn’t sleep with excitement!), we headed for the Barcelona Port Terminal early the next morning.

We had checked in online ahead of our trip and so the checkin at arrival to the ship was quick and easy. It also appeared it was the right idea to arrive out the night before as we were allowed straight on and I was one of the first ever guests to board the world’s largest cruise ship!

Royal Caribbean only do impressive when they build ships and with Symphony of the Seas, the statistics on paper are quite phenomenal.

Symphony of the Seas Facts

  • 230,000 GRT
  • 215.5 Feet Wide
  • 22 Knots Cruising Speed
  • 1188 Feet Long
  • 6780 Guests Total
  • 2175 International Crew
  • Home to Seven Neighbourhoods – Central Park, Boardwalk, Royal Promenade, Vitality Spa at Sea, Entertainment Place, Youth Zone.
  • 16 Dining Options (Mix of Complimentary and Speciality)
  • 18 Decks – 16 of which are for guests
  • 24 Guest Elevators
  • 4 Bow Thrusters with 7500 Horse Power Each
  • 2775 Staterooms

What I loved about this ship was its character. Its similar to its sister Oasis Class ships, Oasis of the Seas, Allure of the Seas and definately Harmony of the Seas, but she also has her own unique personality and I loved finding evidence of this throughout the ship in its style, its art and its little features.

Symphony of the Seas Highlights for Me

Hairspray the Musical

First off, I have to say seeing Hairspray the Musical at sea was just AMAZING! The production was better than what I’ve seen on land and we had the most amazing seats. Did I mention that shows are complimentary when you cruise with Royal Caribbean? Although I do advise pre-booking online before your cruise to avoid disappointment.

Symphony of the Seas Staterooms and Suites

I also loved the fabulous accommodation options on board. I had an Oceanview Balcony Stateroom myself and loved the comfort of it. If I were going on my own cruise, I wouldn’t recommend staying in any category lower than a balcony, its just fabulous having your own space at sea to take in the incredible views that await you.

I also got to see an array of suites on board including the famed Ultimate Family Suite and I have to say, Royal Caribbean have really outdone themselves with their suites on board Symphony of the Seas. They blew my mind. (I’d also like to point out I did do the slide in the family suite and its BRILLIANT!)

Sports Zone and Pool Deck

I also loved this area of the ship as there was always something happening and going on. I love to shoot some hoops at sea, and I also love to challenge my travel pals to games of table tennis! Up at the Sports Zone though, you’ll also find crazy golf, the Ultimate Abyss, a 10 deck drop dry slide and the Flowriders which are a lot of fun to people watch from! You can also zip line up here or simply sit back and take in the sunshine by the pool. Family wise, I should also mention that there is a kiddies zone at the pool called Splashaway Bay, which looked like a whole lot of fun!

Adult Only Solarium

This is probably my favourite area of the ship – I adore the Solarium. It sits at the front of the ship and its a relaxed space with big lounger beds, jacuzzis and a bar. Its perfect for unwinding as you glide along the ocean and I love relaxing here with a good book. I fell asleep here on my cruise on Symphony and almost missed a dinner at Chops Grille, the amazing steakhouse on board! I was that relaxed!

The Boardwalk is another space I love on board as its just so full of life and on Symphony of the Seas, I was delighted to see the addition of a sports bar here! Johnny Rockets is also located here as is the Doghouse, a complimentary Hot Dog bar and also the Aqua Theatre, one of my favourite spaces on the ship to catch a diving show, or to even catch a movie.

Symphony of the Seas – Overall Impressions

Overall I was SO impressed by this ship. I didn’t want to leave and I will certainly be booking a holiday when the time arises. Its modern, a lot of fun, and truly has something for everyone.
