Miami in a Weekend

Fresh back from my trip to Miami, I felt inspired to dive right in and tell you all about my fantastic adventure! I’m so fortunate that I get to enjoy so many wonderful destinations with my career and visiting Miami was a dream. If you’re planning a holiday with your other half, or maybe with your pals, then keep on reading, because Miami is perfect for anyone who’s looking for a fun holiday, in a vibrant city. This is how to do Miami in a Weekend!

Getting there: Aer Lingus Dublin to Miami

Last September, Aer Lingus launched their new direct service from Dublin to Miami and we were lucky enough to get to fly the route! After a quick drink and bite to eat in the Aer Lingus lounge in Dublin Airport, we were on our way. I love flying direct from Dublin to the USA, because clearing customs and immigration in Ireland before you get to the States is a dream! It means that when you arrive, you just collect your bags and head about your merry way! Our flight was approximately 9 hours.

Miami Beach Hotels – Where to Stay

Being on a work trip, I was booked onto an itinerary organised by my employers (Tour America) and the Miami Tourism Board. With that in mind, I stayed in a couple of hotels! The was located in the heart of South Beach, the Royal Palm South Beach Hotel. This is a modern 4* hotel with direct beach access. Its also only a five minute walk to Ocean Drive which is home to numerous dining and nightlife options.

My next hotel was in Mid-Beach, which is a quieter area than its South Beach neighbour. We stayed in the Grand Beach Hotel Miami Beach and I loved this hotel also. Its a modern, contemporary property, which again is located on the beach and had a fabulous pool area. I also loved that the lead-in rooms are suites! And each has a large balcony. This hotel is more suited to those who prefer a quieter vibe on holidays. I loved this hotel!

Things to do in Miami

Miami has so much to offer all who visit and what I loved about our trip, was that we got to sample every type of attraction and adventure! From culture, to thrills, we done it all! Some of my favourite things to do in Miami include:

Thriller Miami Speedboat

Thriller Miami was one of the highlights of my trip! Its a thrilling and hilarious speedboat adventure that’s not only fun, but really interesting! We learned lots along the way about Miami and we got to dance and sing to great music as we bounced across the waves! Thriller is definitely an adrenaline ride but a really fantastic one – I highly recommend it!

Deering Estate and Vizcaya Museum and Gardens

The Deering Estate and Vizcaya Museum and Gardens are two beautiful, but separate estate houses which are perfect for the culture and history fans. I didn’t realise Miami had such a historic element to it but doing tours in both of these museums showed us different!

Eat all of the amazing food!

My favourite places to eat in Miami include Sergio’s for some delicious Cuban breakfast and Villa Azur, which is a chic French-Mediterranean restaurant, that’s perfect for a romantic meal. We also got to enjoy a new food tour (that’s yet to launch!) which took us through Espanola Way and we loved it!

Miami Helicopter Tour

The highlight of my time in Miami, aside from the Thriller speedboat ride was our helicopter ride over this wonderful city. Lasting 20 minutes, this was an incredible experience and one I really recommend. We flew over South Beach, Downtown Miami, Star Island and many other districts. I loved every moment.

Wynwood Walls

Being an Instagram addict, the Wynwood Walls of Miami have been on my bucket list for a really long time and finally getting to see them was just fantastic! We enjoyed delicious Mexican Tapas surrounded by the walls and then we headed to explore them! What a fun place to see when in Miami!

Miami is a really lively city and its perfect for those craving a fun holiday, with an element of relaxation and a touch of culture. Its bright, its bold and spending 3-4 nights in this exciting destination would be the perfect length to take in all there is to do and see. Of course, if you’re a cruise fan, its also a great pre/post cruise destination.

I truly fell in love with Miami and I cannot wait to visit again! Have you ever been to this wonderful city? I’d love to hear your thoughts on it, in the comments below!
