New York City is renowned for being an expensive destination but what many don’t realise is, that you can see so much of this amazing city on a very limited budget. If you are visiting NYC in the near future, be sure to add all of these amazing free things to do in New York City to your bucket list!

Staten Island Ferry

The Staten Island Ferry is something that frequent visitors of New York will know all about! Its a ferry boat that operates between Manhattan and Staten Island and its route offers the most incredible views of the New York Skyline. The best thing about the Staten Island ferry? Its completely free, so if you want to see the Manhattan skyline on a budget, hop onto one of the iconic orange ferry boats and away you go!

The High Line

The High Line has boomed in popularity with those visiting New York in recent years and if you’ve never heard of it, you’re in for a treat. The High Line is an old subway track that’s elevated over the streets of New York and it offers amazing views of the city! This old subway track was renovated into a park and its perfect for an afternoon stroll with your camera.

Central Park

Central Park is one of New York’s most iconic attractions and no trip is complete without a visit. You could spend a day in Central Park and not be bored as throughout the stunning grounds, you’ll come across many iconic monuments, lakes, bridges and more. While there be sure to keep an eye out for the Alice in Wonderland statue, the Boathouse, Belvedere Castle and the iconic bow bridge. Another great thing about Central Park is that its beautiful year round, so you’re guaranteed an amazing experience, no matter the season.

New York Public Library

Located in the heart of 5th Avenue, the New York Public Library is a must visit. Fronted by marble lions and with an incredibly impressive interior, this library is the perfect way to experience one of New York’s most iconic buildings. If you’d love to learn more about it, keep an eye out for the free daily tours.

Brooklyn Bridge

If you want to see one of Manhattan’s most popular neighbours, a visit to Brooklyn is a must. This borough can be reached via the iconic Brooklyn Bridge and if the weather is good, why not walk it! At a medium to relaxed pace, the walk across the Brooklyn Bridge will take you approximately 45-60 minutes, each way.

Grand Central Station

If like me, you’re a Gossip Girl fan, you will be very familiar with the stunning Grand Central Station! Located in Midtown Manhattan, Grand Central is a must see. Its opulent, large and perfect for a photograph so while there, be sure to pose like Serena! XOXO Gossip Girl! 😀

New York Neighbourhoods

If you’re tight on budget and want to experience the best of New York, be sure to explore Manhattan’s many iconic neighbourhoods! The most popular ones are SoHo, China Town, the Meatpacking District and Little Italy. All are very walk-able and each offers a different flavour, all of which make New York a fascinating city.

Times Square

I’m going to end this post on what is always the highlight of my trips to New York – Times Square! Times Square just blows me away year after year with its vibrant energy, bright lights, unrivalled charisma and its perfect photo opportunities. Explore it at day and night to really get the full, crazy experience! And while there, don’t keep walking. Just stop. Take a moment and look all around you. Honestly – its just incredible!
