5 Tips on how to be Mindful Everyday

In every day life, its so easy to caught up in all kinds of emotions and its so easy to live in the past or in the future. This is even harder for Irish people as its in our nature to be worriers and lets face it, moaners. Mindfulness is a relatively new thing to me and I only heard about it for the first time in October of last year.

Mindfulness is all about living in the moment and appreciating things as they happen in that moment. So essentially its about not focussing on the past and not worrying about the future. Mindfulness for me is very relaxing. it helps me to control my anxiety when that creeps up and its extremely helpful to me in everyday life. Here are some of my tips on how to be mindful everyday.


1.Take deep breaths

This sounds silly but consciously thinking about your breath as you take each one is seriously so relaxing. Like so relaxing. It allows you to tune out all thats going on around you and it brings a really nice sense of calm. Breath in for 3 slowly, and breath out for 3 slowly. Seriously its so good.

2. Listen to meditation music

Meditation music is a big part of my life. I love it before bedtime to just unwind and switch off and I love it when I might be experiencing a moment of anxiety in work. I’m sure you can buy CDs / download music but I just look up mediation music on Youtube and let it play away. I love it.

3. Follow mindful videos on Youtube 

I find it hard sometimes to focus on my breathing so I look up mindfulness exercises on Youtube that help me control my breathing and I fall asleep to them each night. Seriously, there are so many great ones on Youtube!

4. Take a walk

This sounds so simple but fresh air helps you appreciate being in the moment. Leaving a warm office / house / car etc where you may be feeling anxious will jerk you back into reality with fresh air.

5. Be kind to yourself

Its easy to get caught up in worry or anxiety and when these moments strikes and all else fails, be kind to you. Go for a hot chocolate, take a drive, lie down and close your eyes or even read a book! Do something that is kind for you in the moment and this will help you be mindful.
